Health and Safety cautions for single travellers
Single travellers are required to take more precautions than persons traveling in a team. You cannot leave your luggage unattended while using a bathroom or when travelling on a bus, boat or train. Extra precautions are required particularly on overnight trips. Regarding petty crime some countries are safer than others, but solo travellers should always be careful. All baggage should be properly locked and it is good not to show the valuable items during travel. The cameras should not be carried around the neck.
It should be inside the backpack and should be taken out only when you need it for taking the photographs. After taking the photographs it should again be kept back in backpack. Taking out and putting it again in the backpack may look a little difficult but it is necessary so that the thieves cannot notice you. During travelling for singles holidays you may meet some strangers who may ask some very detailed questions about where you are staying or where are you going but always make it a point not to tell anyone about your plans.
You should be especially careful when you change money or withdraw funds at a local ATM. It is advisable to do this during day hours and from a busy banking location. Put your money at a safe place quickly, and if the area is deserted you should always see that nobody is watching you.
Dealing with health problems is also a most difficult challenge during solo single holidays. It is always good to have a basic first aid kit in your travel bag and to learn about health concerns at your destination before time. Also purchase a traveller’s health insurance policy to protect yourself from high cost of medical treatment abroad. But remember that if you are going on solo
single holidays you will be alone to deal with your health problems. You can do well if you keep a list of recommended doctors and hospitals before starting your journey.
