Place of interest:
Here are a few classical places to give you an overall impression of Morocco. The imperial cities of Marrakech, Casablanca, Rabat and the capital Fez are prime examples of Moroccan cities which are incredibly diverse. Fortified towns that were the work of the Portuguese, have markedly different aspect to explore.

Essaouira being a prime example. Agadir being a particular holiday destination for European tourists for its sublime beach of fine sand 10 km's long. There are mountains everywhere in Morocco, sumptuous landscapes, incredible waterfalls and impressive gorges all to be discovered!

Currency:
Moroccan currency is Dirham (DH). With the exchange rate at around 15.77 Moroccan Dirham to the sterling pound. (Nov 2003). Note - can only be obtained in Morocco.

Passport/ Visas:
British passport holders can stay up to 3 months without a visa. Other nationals please contact Moroccan Consulate.

Health:
No vaccination certificate is required for visitors coming from Europe or America.
Anti Malarial treatment is not necessary. Bottled water is recommended.

Cost Of Living:
Cost of living is reasonable and substantially cheaper in comparison to Europe.

Language & Religion:
Language in Morocco is Arabic, as well as many dialects e.g. Tamazight (Berber).
*Islam is the official religion in Morocco.

Shopping:
Bargaining is the art, which is practised with a smile. Souks are wonderful places to buy anything from a ring to fragrant spices.

Nightlife:
Nightlife is based around restaurants and bars. Where the art of conversation and listening to traditional music is the order of every evening!

Eating out:
Moroccan cuisine offers refined preparations of fruit, vegetable from rare aromatic spices, delicate fish and succulent meat.

Foods to try:
Moroccan dishes you must try to delight your taste buds. Kebabs cooked in front of at the entrance to souks. Couscous traditional family lunch eaten with your fingers Moroccan style, Mechoui - oven or spit roast lamb. Pastilla- a fine flaky pastry made with pigeon and almonds. Fresh fish is highly recommended.

220 V / 110 V. Power points are of the French type.

Marrakech is 71 F.

Way of life:
A respect of local customs is fundamental act of courtesy in a welcoming country.
To avoid embarrassing situation comply with the common practice. For example accesses to Mosques and holly places is forbidden to non-Muslims, avoid provocative clothing.
